With the support of Cancer Care Ontario, The Medical Centre in September 2013 upgraded to the latest in Digital Radiography (D.R.) Mammography machines. We have two new Hologic Lorad SeleniaTM Digital Mammography machines available Monday through Friday (except statutory holidays), to meet the diagnostic needs of patients in the Greater Peterborough Region. This digital radiography technology in conjunction with our PACS (Picture Archiving Communications System) has the capability to quickly and efficiently capture and make available for Radiologist interpretation, very high quality, superb digital mammography images for the purpose of Breast Cancer screening and early detection.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. It is the leading cause of cancer deaths in Ontario. ( per Cancer Care Ontario). Screening mammograms find breast cancer earlier allowing for more treatment options. Please talk to your health care provider about screening.
This new DR mammography equipment is approved by Health Canada, meets Cancer Care Ontario and Ontario Breast Screening Program requirements, is inspected and approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario under the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act/Program (H.A.R.P.), and is accredited by the Canadian Association of Radiologists (C.A.R.) as meeting their very high standards for mammography technology. The Medical Centre Mammography Service is operated within a Independent Health Facility (I.H.F.) licensed by the IHF Branch of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, and managed by The Medical Centre.
