Dr. G.N. Grieve B. Sc. Hons, M.D., C.C.F.P.,
Completed his undergraduate Biochemistry degree at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec. Studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his residency in family practice in Fredericton, NB, through Dalhousie University, in 2006.
Our practice is a teaching site for Family Medicine Residents. The resident’s are qualified physicians, have completed medical school, and passed all their examinations. When in our practice, the resident doctor will mostly be seeing patients independently. You may be offered the opportunity to see the resident or myself. I would like to encourage all of my patients to take this opportunity to help these new doctors as they specialize in family medicine.
Availability & Accessibility
Urgent visits requested by telephone will be evaluated and given an appointment the same day, if possible. If no appointments are available that day, you are welcome to register for the Extended Hours Clinic, otherwise if your concern is of a more urgent nature, you should proceed to the local Emergency Dept at PRHC. Patients are also encouraged to contact TeleHealth Ontario, 1-866-553-7205 if concern is not of an emergent nature.
Shelley is our practice Receptionist. Shelley should be trusted with all your concerns whilst being treated respectfully.
Jenny R.N. is our practice Nurse. Jenny has extensive experience as a family practice registered nurse. Jenny is responsible for all Immunizations and Routine Injections. Jenny is actively involved with our patient encounters and often meets with the patients prior to Dr. Grieve. Jenny’s role also includes health education, especially chronic diseases.
Both Shelley and Jenny are held to the same strict confidentiality standard as Dr. Grieve. Dr. Grieve will not tolerate any verbal, emotional or physical abuse of his team. Should a patient behave in such a manner toward any member of our team, they will be asked to leave the practice immediately, without exception.
Chantelle Hart is a nurse practitioner with extensive experience in primary care practice. We are very fortunate to have her involved in our practice. She works independently, in conjunction with and alongside Dr. Grieve to help manage all of our patients' medical needs. For further information about Chantelle, please see her profile.
All requests for an appointment with Dr. Grieve will be triaged (prioritized) by the receptionist and documented for chief complaint. Patients will be asked to provide specific information about their concern(s) and reason for their visit. This is necessary to appoint the appropriate scheduling and allotted time. Please arrive on time. We will do everything we can to ensure that the office runs efficiently and on time. We reserve the right to rebook patients who are late for appointments.
Missed Appointment Policy
24 hours cancellation notice is required or patient will be charged for missed visit.
Our practice is electronic and we will not be accepting old notes or medical charts as a whole. We will however, be accepting certain parts of your old charts (these include: recent consultation letters from specialist, relevant radiology reports and current laboratory investigations).
Dr. Grieve is willing to fill prescriptions by telephone or fax request. However, if a medication is a new prescription from Dr. Grieve he will require an appointment to review the risks and benefits of that particular medication. We require one week lead time for fax and telephone prescription renewals. That is to say, if you request a prescription refill, please request this one week prior to it being due. In addition, we would prefer you contact your pharmacy directly and have them contact our office with the renewal request. This frees up our phone lines for patients calling looking for appointments for urgent medical concerns. Also, some medications require ongoing monitoring. If you have not undertaken the prerequisite screening blood work for this medication within a recent time frame, you may be asked to repeat blood work prior to refilling the medication.
Referrals to Specialists
Dr. Grieve recognizes the scope of family practice and the need for occasional referral to specialty services. This will be at Dr. Grieve’s discretion. Dr. Grieve will use evidence-based guidelines to direct these decisions. Before any referral is arranged, patients must see the family doctor for pre-consultation information gathering and investigations to facilitate a faster and more effective consultation.
What to Bring to Each Visit
- All current medications in their bottles (if not practical, a list with name, dose & frequency)
- Health Card (without Health card, you will not be seen)
Not all services provided are covered by OHIP. As such, you will be asked to pay for certain services. A list of these services will be posted in our office. Non-payment, within a reasonable time frame, will result in a letter of warning. Non-payment twice will result in a discontinuation of uninsured services for that particular patient and may result in this patient no longer being a member of Dr. Grieve’s family practice. That said, we realize and will always take into consideration that some patients may not be able to pay for these services. Please do not hesitate to inform us if these charges pose a financial hardship to you. Alternative arrangements can be made and this will not result in any penalty.

Electronic (Email) Communication
Email, though ubiquitous in society in general, has not been incorporated widely into the healthcare field until recently. Its use as a communication tool between patient and doctor has been limited by the need to observe legislation designed by the provincial government to ensure security and confidentiality of your personal health information. In the United States this is known as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), here in Ontario the legislation is the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Document Act (PIPEDA). As you might appreciate, this legislation is extensive and complex. In essence, it prevents us from communicating through traditional email applications (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, outlook, etc.). However, there are now platforms which meet the standards outlined in the legislation. “Medeo” is the platform which most efficiently integrates with our EMR (Electronic medical record). If you would like to communicate with our office electronically we encourage you to sign up for an account - it is free and secure. If interested, please email a request to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please do not mention anything medically sensitive or confidential in the email sent to email@example.com as this email server is not secure enough to meet the requirements laid out in the legislation. Once we receive your email, we will send you an invitation to join Medeo. You will need to create an account and safeguard your password and login details. Thereafter, we will be able to communicate safely and confidentially. This platform will also allow for the exchange of attachments such as photographs, forms, etc.
