X-ray, Ultrasound and Mammography services are available to all patients upon presentation of a requisition from their physician. Laboratory services are available only to patients of Medical Centre clinicians. Please be sure to bring your health card.

The Diagnostic Imaging department provides service to all clinicians within The Medical Centre and welcomes patient referrals from other clinicians in the community.

We are a modern digital imaging facility, providing x-rays, mammography and General Ultrasound services using PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) for storing and retrieving images. We are then able to provide patients with access to their images using our “Patient Portal Access” for viewing by a Specialist outside of The Medical Centre.

We provide diagnostic Mammography along with Ontario Breast Screening exams.

All Diagnostic Imaging Exams are performed by appointment during Clinic hours. Depending on the exam, you may be asked to change into a gown.

Qualified x-ray technologists perform full-field digital Xray exams. These exams include those for chest, skull, abdomen, extremities and spine.


Ontario Breast Screening Program

This program is for routine mammography screening of women aged 40+, who have not had breast cancer and have no Symptoms.

The Medical Centre Diagnostic Services (M.C.D.S.) is approved by Cancer Care Ontario as an affiliate site of the Ontario Breast Screening Program. M.C.D.S. meets the standards of the Canadian Association of Radiologists Mammography Accreditation Program. This program is available through self-referral (following OBSP Screening Eligibility) or through a physician’s office. A state of the art computer tracking system facilitates the registration and regular recall of patients. Recalls are usually scheduled every two years.


Mammography

We are a Canadian Association of Radiologists Mammography accredited site, meaning both the equipment and staff adhere to strict guidelines set out by the Canadian Association of Radiologists.

Diagnostic mammograms are available for patients with a Doctor’s signed requisition.

Screening Mammograms are available through the ONTARIO BREAST SCREENING PROGRAM. This is a province-wide program that provides breast screening for Ontario women. The program recommends screening for most women ages 40 to 74.

Please be sure to bring your health card ALONG WITH YOU FOR THIS APPOINTMENT.

Do not use perfume, powder, creams or deodorant before your visit.

If possible wear a 2-piece outfit, as you will be asked to undress from the waist up for the mammogram.


Ultrasound

A qualified Sonographer performs ultrasound (e.g. abdominal, pelvic, obstetrical) and MSK exams.

ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND

  1. This is a fasting test. Nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours prior to appointment time.
  2. You may sip water and take your medications. Diabetic patients and small children may have a non-fat snack and clear juice.

ABDOMINAL and PELVIC ULTRASOUND

  1. This is a fasting test. Nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours prior to appointment time.
  2. This test requires a full bladder. 1½ hours before your appointment drink 3 8oz glasses of water, finishing 1 hour before your test. Do not empty your bladder.
  3. You may sip water and take your medications. Diabetic patients and small children may have a non­-fat snack and clear juice.

PELVIC, GU or KUB ULTRASOUND

  1. This test requires a full bladder. 1½ hours before your appointment drink 3 8oz glasses of non-carbonated fluids, finishing 1 hour before your test. Do not empty your bladder.
  2. Eat as usual.

OBSTETRICAL ULTRASOUND

Before 10 weeks:

  1. This test requires a full bladder. 1½ hours before your appointment drink 2 8oz glasses of clear non-carbonated fluids, finishing 1 hour before your test. Do not empty your bladder.
  2. Eat as usual.

After 10 weeks: You may eat and drink normally. Please remove any abdominal jewelry prior to test.

OTHER ULTRASOUND TESTS

No preparation required.


LAB and ECG Service (MEDICAL CENTRE PATIENTS ONLY)

Appointments are required and are made by the physician’s office requesting the lab work.

We are now pleased to offer patients the ability to book their Lab appointments online. Book your Lab appointment or patients may call 705-748-2388.

On-site ECG service is provided to Medical Centre Patients, Monday-Friday. Qualified staff provide routine electrocardiogram tracings and Medical Centre physicians provide ECG interpretations and reports.

The Medical Centre is affiliated with LifeLabs, Canada’s largest private provider of laboratory services. We offer an on-site specimen collection service for the convenience of Medical Centre patients. Please present your Health Card upon arrival.
